Book Review: In the Event of Love
i got 1/5 of the way through in the event of love and then it was time to return it to the library and i felt no urge to check it out again. this kind of story is great for a movie that only requires 2 hours max, but drawn out in a novel, it's much harder to dedicate a full 16 hours of attention.
the problem comes from needing to set up the main character as something of a mess, where she's knocked down and suffering at the beginning with the goal being that by the end, she's learned about herself and others and can connect and be happy (specifically romantically). but unlike the many pixar movies where the jerk main character learns to lighten up pretty quickly, stewing on someone acting like that sucks! i don't want to do that.
so i won't.
